"They are." The witch agreed. It made her sad that they were. She had nobody now, but Diaval. Logan was out there somewhere, as was his daughter. Ariel and her new voice. Ben Flynn and Eric Draven. All of them, out in that world beyond the bridge. Exploring and living. But they had not been Maleficent's people. They had been, at best, budding friends. Allies more like. Her own people were long gone in a world she was willing to bet she would never see again.
She realized that her story sounded rather altruistic without the bits about Stefan, heartbreak, and revenge in them. Without the tale of her wings.
"I will not likely stay here forever." Maleficent said. She understood what Evey meant, and appreciated it. She would not say that she would follow the girl into the new place, though. Nor make any promises that it would be soon that she explored. Diaval cawed from his perch and flew down to find Maleficent's shoulder. He peered at Evey and cawed again, his feathers fluffing up as he did so.
