Aidan was beyond grateful that Evey didn't ask him how he'd managed to make that climb after the fall he'd taken. He was even more thankful that she switched the subject entirely. He was glad that they'd been getting out, that the plan had begun to take place, but it didn't matter anymore. Not really. They weren't there. They didn't have to think about it.
Not talking about it was even better.
"I got set up in a place called The Manchester. It's got gargoyles all over it." And it was way too fancy for Aidan, really. A doorman. Leather furniture in the lobby. The fact that it even had a lobby. He wondered if he could move, if the City would let him, or if his stuff would just get moved back as soon as he left the apartment.
Aidan finally looked at Evey again. More in response to her mention of the key than anything. His shame was still present, and he didn't want her to see that in his eyes. Hopefully she wouldn't. She wasn't a dumb girl, not by any stretch of the imagination, she had to have figured it out already. But her knowing and seeing that knowledge... those were two different matters.
"A key? Are we at the key stage?" He smiled. If she wanted to exchange keys, he was all for it. Of course, he'd have to go there first and be invited in if the key was going to be of any use at all.
