The voice speared her straight through the back and held her still for a few seconds. Aidan - she knew the voice completely. Her hands dropped into her lap and she straightened a little in the chair. Did she look all right? The City had given her a wardrobe that bucked the shabby look she'd grown into in die Festung; in fact, she was wearing an actual dress at the moment - something she'd never done in that broken world. It wasn't quite white, and not quite blue either, but rather a hazy mix between the two. She felt like she was wearing the sky, when she first pulled it on.
But there'd be no checking to be sure she looked all right, not here. It was too late for all of that. And, despite everything they'd been through, Evey found herself downright nervous to see him here. It felt... it felt as if she were meeting him for the first time all over again. He could probably hear her heart. The thought made her smile and had he turning her head so she could look over her shoulder at him.
"Oh, there you are," she said mildly, as if she'd misplaced a pen. But then she got up from her chair and turned to face him. Her eyes were positively lit up from within. It was impossible to keep from smiling for long.
Aidan. And he looked amazing. Her palms ached to touch his face. Her arms felt weighted down and sore from the tension it took to keep them at her sides. How long had it been since she'd seen him? Did they have to worry about Dean not wanting him here? Evey wondered if even now he was here with just a day to see her. Some of the light faded.
"Can you stay?" she asked, thinking to get it out of the way right off.
