Ariel nodded. Her life for the exchange. She wasn't bound to the Queen, but still needed to give the word that she would not take to the sea like her mother before her had and become one with the foam. "I promise. You have my word," Ariel breathed, satisfied with that part of the exchange.
The caw from the black bird startled her some, evident by the jump her body had taken. Her heart beat and Ariel's eyes turned to look at the bird. It seemed familiar and yet it didn't. Wasn't.
She heard the rest of what Maleficent said but didn't turn to look at the Queen again until a moment after she had stopped speaking. It was then Ariel returned her focus to the task at hand. "He is gone. Not dead, just vanished. As if he had never existed in the first place," Ariel said with a sigh.
It probably seemed naive that she should claim such a thing. But she knew Faramir. She knew what either brother was capable of. "I didn't plan on giving my heart to him. It happened. And now I feel as though it has disappeared with him."
