Diaval cawed loudly from a nearby tree. He knew what Maleficent had done, and why, though he'd never tell anybody the truth of it. Let the queen have her secrets. They weren't his to share anyway.
She raised an eyebrow at the redheaded mermaid. "Your life, of course." Maleficent held up her hand to keep the girl from speaking before she finished. "You'll not waste yourself and your potential by killing yourself, Ariel. You'll live and you'll experience, and you'll love again. If you so choose. But you will not stare longingly at the waves and toss yourself into the sea over a lost love. You may pine for him, grieve if he's died, of course, that's natural."
Walking toward the water a few steps, Maleficent stopped and turned and looked at Ariel again. She made a motion with her hands for the mermaid to continue her tale.
