"A different life?" Selina inquired in a purr. How could his life be different? He was the hero she needed, the one that dared challenge her, the one that kept everything in balance. He was her hero. The one man she could count on to be there if the situation got sticky. Had that changed? She offered him a curious look.
Something other than me. Those words chilled her heart and she looked away. Should she tell him about Ben? Make him jealous? No. Not with words like that echoing in her mind. So he wasn't Batman here. The Wayne brat instead? And what did that mean for her? Would she go unchecked? Take what she wanted? What she wanted wasn't jewelry. It wasn't a treasure that held value to anyone else but her.
And had he asked her that question she would have attached hersef to him with no question. No hesitation. She was glad he had found the man behind the mask and he no longer needed it. She only hoped she could achieve that same level. She wished desperately she didn't need her mask anymore.
