He hadn't believed there would have been protest at the offer. There were no strings attached, nothing but honesty. She might need a place and he had one he wasn't going to be using for its purpose. It needed work, he would tend to it despite what wounds it might re-open in the process, but it was worth it to make it habitable for her.
Once upon a time the apartment had been a great place. It was rustic, charming. Shelly had decorated it and made it theirs. It wasn't filled with their things anymore, most of it had been taken by their neighbors after the police had ceased visiting, and anything that had been left were too personal or broken to salvage for resale. The place had the potential to become great again, it just needed work.
Eric didn't look at her as she spoke her next words. Peter was a great man. And Eric didn't give Peter the credit he deserved. Leeloo saw it and so Eric knew it was there.

But that was the same way Eric felt about her too. He loved her. He could never love her like Peter could, he wasn't capable, but he did the best he could to make her happy. Anything she wanted.
