Timidly, like a fawn in an open field, Ariel followed the kind young woman.
As she approached the stand, Ariel felt herself grow more and more curious with each step. It had to be safe because the place was full of smiling people and those that came and went seemed merry and full of mirth. That was a good sign, right? She hoped so, and she hoped that whatever it was...whatever ice cream was, made these people truly happy.
She only stopped moving at Anna's side and her head tilted with wonder as she watched the bowls being prepared by the man behind the counter. Never before had she beheld such a thing.
And then it was being offered to her.
Ariel accepted the bowl in both of her cupped palms, and her eyes fell to the jaunty cone that sat playfully askew, the bright colored flecks and the brownish...and white...
The spoon was gripped easily in her fingers and her eyes swept those around her as to the proper etiquette of such a thing. All around them people seemed either to be licking the item, or consuming it. And with that settled, Ariel turned her attention back to her bowl, spoon and then acted appropriately. She dug in.
Instantly her mouth erupted in cold and sweet and flavor...!!! Her eyes widened in delight and she offered Anna a bright look. She certainly did like ice cream.
