Peter shivered for a moment, pulling himself back to the apartment before his probe had quite completed. He needed to deal with what was happening here before he started looking past his own door.
I'm still trying to figure that out, he admitted, but the gist is this: I know that you and I have only been here a little while, and I remember coming here straight from the caravan leaving die Festung. But... I also remember getting sent to another world. Where I've been for almost a year. A place that...
Words failed. So instead, he opened up his memories, and let her take a look. The arrival in the savage world, the mess with the TARDIS. The discovery of dinosaurs. Even glimpses of her other self, working with him to organize and structure what they could. Leeloo's death, and subsequent fresh arrival. The only things he kept from her were the deaths - that of Aiden, and his own at the hands of Inque - and the older Evey's fragile relationship with John Preston. He ended with a hint of that strange duality he had felt upon landing here, and then made his memories his own again.
He could offer her nothing but the truth, and even though it was Evey, some instincts were hard to kill. Peter found himself bracing for the inevitable anger, the fear, the rejection. The confusion he simply could not explain.
