Peter grinned at the sight of Leeloo wrapped in his hoodie, and gave her a kiss on the nose as he pressed one of the Hershey bars into her pocket. then he followed the sandwich into the kitchen to grab a knife, taking a long sip from the coffee cup.
Pure ambrosia. God, he had missed coffee. There was a wicked impulse to chug it immediately, give in to the craving, but he fought against it, choosing instead to savor the taste and let it linger. Besides, even coffee had competition right now - not only the wonders of genuine poultry, but the allure of the two people he treasured most in this or any other world.
Evey's concerns were echoing in his own mind, but he was trying to sort through some answers. Last time this world had drifted nearby, he hadn't been one of the ones to visit. And he didn't know of anyone from that broken world who had been given a place to live during that brief sojourn. Also, simple proximity didn't explain the dual memories, or the duplicate people. And certainly it didn't explain that he, Peter, had seen that broken world die, and then be saved by Leeloo, across a barrier of space and time. There was no way this world could be in proximity to both the broken world, and the savage one. Not at the same time.
And the memories. It seemed that this Evey had come from one set of his memories, the older Evey from the other. So why hadn't Peter been duplicated as well, the say Evey had been? Or...
Peter froze for a moment, suddenly wondering. If his memories of the broken world ended before he'd been carried away, then what if Leeloo...
Stop, he scolded himself. Don't do that to yourself. But he couldn't help it. What if Leeloo, the other Leeloo, had been brought here as well? What if there were not now three, but four of his loved ones in this City?
Swallowing thickly, Peter half-listened to the conversation behind him as he gently probed for another mind. He wasn't sure what he would do if he discovered it, but he couldn't stop himself from searching.
