Peter had just teleported back to the apartment with Leeloo when the knock sounded at the door. Evey. He looked back to the precious gem. "That's Evey at the door," he explained, in the Divine Language. "But it's a different Evey than the one we just left. She... won't remember anything that you do, but she'll recognize you. She met another version of you in the last world we were in." Peter had explained about the previous Leeloo he knew, even if he hadn't been certain this Leeloo completely understood at the time. But Leeloo was nothing if not intelligent, and so the information was more a forewarning than explanation.
That said, he gave the woman who was his heart a gentle squeeze, and let her examine the apartment on her own. He went to the door and opened it, his smile mirroring the one that greeted him. God, it was refreshing to see Evey looking so happy. It hurt to know how sad the older one felt, knowing that there was nothing he could do to assuage that feeling.
From his splintered memories, he knew that he had seen this Evey only moments ago, but there was a part of him that hadn't seen her for over a year. Even if he had seen her evolution.
It was all too complex to sit in the brain for long. He pushed the thoughts aside and opened his arms to his best friend.
