"That's cheerful," Matt replied, though not unkindly. He actually did think it sounded pleasant. When things were agreeable they ran smoothly, and it was never a bad thing to be agreeable. Nodding with contentment, his arm looped around hers and easily his feet began to move.
He descended the stairs with all of the confidence someone with sight would, taking them one step at a time. It was the same way he did everything else in his life. And what kind of a hero would he be if he could evade a raptor but allowed the stairs to overcome and challenge him?
And maybe he didn't want Rose to see him struggle with something so simple and thoughtless and easy.
Black tea and dryer sheets greeted him warmly as he crossed the threshold of Rose's flat, and he remained without sound as she guided him through the unfamiliar space. He was listening to everything while seeing everything in efforts to memorize the layout.
"Thank you," he breathed, kindly. And he meant it.
