Even Tony was willing to admit that he'd been swept away in the heat of the moment just like her, clinging to tears and pain and searching for that ounce of comfort that only the other could provide in this situation. But she was right, damn her, she'd been right. They needed so much time to repair this damage, and with the two of them trapped here with no real outside interferences, time was all they had. Time to invest in each other and more importantly, time for him to become the man he should for her.
If he wanted to keep her, he would have to grow up and learn from his mistakes or he was going to lose her forever.
She didn't believe him when he'd said I love you, which was about the only thing she had left to say to wound him to the quick. If a visible crack could appear across the glass of the reactor to illustrate how bad that hurt, she would have seen it as she traced the device that kept him here with her and not six feet under. But he'd said it before he'd been kissing her. When he'd been holding her and trying to soothe her already broken heart. Guess she didn't believe that either, and Tony felt more of a fool for it.
Right. Heh. Well, good show, Tony Stark. You spent so long getting your shit together that when you actually say the words, despite it all, she doubts them Way to go there, champ.
Then Tony planted his hands flat on the carpet, pushed up and got to his knees. He was moving now. She'd said the right thing to get him to move off of her without hesitation. He was up and to his feet in a matter of seconds, running his hands through his hair and down his clothes to smooth the wrinkles out. Guess he wouldn't need that brief trip to her bathroom after all.
Though he did offer his hand down to her to help her up from the floor if she chose to take it. He might have been hurt, but he was about to bury that underneath titanium walls for now until he had a chance to really dwell on how her words had stung. She couldn't tell that she'd hurt him aside from his quick retreat from on top of her, and in true Tony fashion, he put on a small smile to hide it as best he could.
Too bad his eyes weren't so good at that smokescreen thing.
