Pepper gave a little scoff, rolling those eyes of hers as she looked away from him.
Men! They can be so impossibly dense sometimes.
And Tony could certainly be the worst. It would never cease to amaze her that a world-proclaimed "genius" could be so amazingly dumb!
At first she just wanted to mutter a quick "forget it" or "don't worry about it" or "it doesn't matter". But the unfortunate truth was that it did matter. For the first time in their five years together, it really truly did matter. This wasn't something that could be swept under the carpet as some of his other wild schemes and mistakes could. This was something that could potentially destroy everything that they'd ever had or ever could have together.
If she just let this all go now without some kind of an explanation of what was on her heart...she knew she'd never be able to face him again.
"Alright. Fine." Her eyes turned back to him, and though there was still a chilling look there, her words were a bit calmer and cooler now. "You want to know why I got so upset? Why, after so many years, I finally was done with this little game of yours? Very well. I'll tell you then, Mr. Stark."
She sat forward on the couch some, bracing her elbows casually against her knees as she looked up at where he stood over him, not allowing him to intimidate her with his significant height advantage.
"I'm upset...and I am hurt...and I am mad, because everything that I thought to believe true about you has all just been proven to me to be a lie."
