Sam paused. Did he think it was a good idea for them split up now? He didn't like it all that much, particularly since they spent a lot more time working apart than together these days. It was mostly his fault. He still didn't feel that he deserved company on a lot of days. And he didn't really know where he fit in with Dean's domestic bliss. Hell, his girlfriend had shown that she could handle hunts just fine so there was a part of Sam that wondered why Dean would bother bringing him along at all anymore. Of course, that was the part that had gotten more than a little self-loathing after years of feeling the taint of knowing that he had a little bit of demon's blood inside, to knowing that Lucifer had been in his body and of course after what he'd done while soulless.
He didn't answer right away, but when he did he made a point to look his brother in the eyes.
"I think that we need to cover as much ground as we can as quickly as possible. If that's Fred out there, there's no telling what will happen if we can't find her. And if it's the thing that ate Fred, we still don't want to lose it. The City moves so fast that we need to see if we can find something to track her. So go. Talk to Dinah and see if she'll let you set the Tower up. I'll see what I can do on my end and I'll call you as soon as I get things up and running. Promise."
