Edward inhaled Jonathan's hair, rocking the man's body tenderly.
"I wish it could've been me that saved you, my love. To bring you this peace. I don't even know where you went, or maybe where you are...but I will be here for you when you do finally make your way back from the depths of whatever psyche you have allowed yourself to fall victim to," Edward breathed softly.
The fingers of his hand curled into Jonathan's clothes, almost as if to convince himself he wasn't dreaming. The ring he wore, the symbol of their own union glimmered in the lights of the tree.
"I love you. I wish you could see it, that you could feel it." He burned for Jonathan. Every part of him lit up when the other was around and to have been without that fire, that warmth, for so long was terrible.
