Every so often, Jo needed a night off from the vampire/hunter bar and sometimes that meant checking out the competition. She liked Lorne's bar quite a bit. There was less tension lurking beneath the surface, even if the patrons of that particular bar could be just as varied as at her bar. But it was different there. There wasn't a line carved down the center of the bar, dividing up the two factions.
Maxine was in school and being a bar owner, Jo didn't think there was anything wrong with a liquid lunch. Though, in fact, she didn't plan to drink all that much. Maybe just get some bar food and have a beer or two.
Caritas wasn't all that full when she stepped in, so she spotted the guy at the table casting glares at his phone right away. It wasn't one of the smartphones that people usually received when they arrived in the City. Which meant that he was possibly a new arrival. She winced at the thought. Poor guy.
There was a definite instinct to just keep walking and let someone else play welcome wagon. Jo wasn't much in terms of hospitality after all. But she couldn't in good conscience let someone new wander the City without at least trying to give them a heads up.
She approached the table slowly and gave the man a small smile.
"Hi. Are you new in town?"
Not the smoothest conversation starter, but she couldn't think of anything better.
