The Doctor smiled, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. At least he hadn't said the words. Not: It's bigger on the inside, but </i>It's smaller on the outside.</i> He was still smarting from his recent loss.
The sad expression disappeared as soon as he spoke: "This isn't actually the first time I've been to a place like this. The first time was a planet that called itself House. It lured in Time Lords and ate TARDISes. Now, this place, this City, does something different. This doesn't eat the people it ... well, it isn't actively eating us. We'd probably give it indigestion."
The Doctor did a small dance on his feet as he made his way to the console and placed his hands on the controls.
"Right, just a little spin, then?" He pulled levers and pushed buttons and ... warning lights went on and off along with a small siren. The Doctor smacked the offending lights, "Alarms! Aways going off. Why haven't I dismantled you yet?"
The TARDIS made a sound that everyday to the Doctor, the vworp! vworp! noise and suddered and shook its passengers inside. It took a few moments for The Doctor to recover himself.
"Right. Short trip."
The Doctor ran to the doors and opened them. They were on the exact same corner, at the exact same moment in time. He rubbed the back of his neck.
"So, we know The City has the ability to pull people from all over time and space and, well, this is a hell of a quantum lock, usually reserved for fixed points in time..."
