"What's life without a little risk?" Maggie said, running her tongue over her teeth and winking at Pam. "Besides, if you kill me, you have to take care of my dogs. Those're the rules. Plus I'll haunt you to make sure you do."
She followed along behind the nurse into an empty exam room and leaned against the wall, not wanting to sit on either the chair or exam table available. She kicked a foot against the wall until the nurse looked annoyed, kicked it once more for good measure, and looked back at Pam. "I probably wouldn't haunt you," she said. "That kind of thing's unhealthy for everyone involved."
