"I think there are a number of us who would have gone to jail fighting for her." Of course, Hannibal had other ways to prolong proceedings, things that River would not have liked, and he was glad that he didn't have to resort to them.
Hannibal turned to River, smiling.
"You should decide something to do to celebrate being a completely free woman."
He was quite glad that they weren't going to have to deal with this matter any longer. Hannibal was willing to indulge all of River's whims, big or small. Not that he wasn't like that normally, but he felt there may be specific things that she would like to experience without the burden of prosecution hanging over her head. One of those things might have even been going out on her own, without him, without having to make sure that he knew where she was and when she'd be back. He'd been her keeper since she'd gotten out of jail. Her first move in freedom could be taking a long walk all by herself. And he would understand completely if that were the case.
She didn't like to be caged, and Hannibal had never thought she needed to be. Now she was free of the physical bars of prison, and the metaphorical ones of being in the custody of another person.
Whatever she chose, he would bend over backward to make it come to be.
