When he stood, Beauty stopped immediately. She would have been proud of herself for not backing away, but any thought of that was ecliped by the anger that rose up in response to the few mild words he tossed at her. It was Jonathan Crane's appearance that kept her from lashing out then and there. He looked as if someone had put him through what he'd done to her. The strange markings around his mouth... No, she couldn't think about what happened to him. He'd hurt her. She shouldn't feel sympathy for him.
She clenched her jaw. But when she finally opened her mouth, the words that came out were, "You look terrible."
They should have been, I want you to explain why you did those things to me, apologize for them, and promise never to do them again. They weren't anything like that. Even furious with having been terrified of her own shadow for far too long, because of him, she couldn't get past... how clearly he was suffering. She swallowed, then backed away at last.
"Are you all right?"
It wasn't what she should be asking. She didn't come for this.
