"Just because it's a job doesn't mean I get paid," he said, flatly. It wasn't a job in the traditional sense, of course, but it was the only career he ever wanted.
He raised an eyebrow and looked right at her. "Shouldn't talk about people's parents," he said, but his tone was dismissive. "Anyway, it's not just there for decoration. Serves a purpose. Everything serves a purpose."
He didn't bother elaborating. Why give away secrets? Wasn't really in his nature to give secrets away - only to keep them.
