Pepper let her eyes dart around the workshop as she slipped in behind Tony and closed the door back again behind her. Yes, everything seemed to be exactly as it had been left the night before when she'd come downstairs to inform Tony that she would be heading back home. There was still a puddle of grease on the floor that he hadn't bothered to clean yet...clutter and tools scattered all across his work place...a computer screen pulled up with some kind of new schematics across it. The cars still sat all lined up in their place...and the hole in the ceiling right above the charred place in the floor had, unfortunately, not been magically repaired in their journey here.
It was as though the entire house had simply been picked up and set in this new dimension...or wherever they were.
Yes. Everything was here.
Including the Iron Man armor.
Hanging in its prominent place on display, Pepper had to resist the childish urge to stick her tongue out at it as she passed by.
She pulled up short as Tony moved to the car door and gallantly opened it for her, that wicked glimmer in his eyes a troubling tell-tale of things to come. Suddenly she was hesitant to allow herself to get into the vehicle with this madman at the wheel. For a moment she thought about perhaps demanding the keys from him...but Tony would never let her drive any of his precious cars. Even when he was trashed drunk and she had to come pick him up from whatever party he'd been in attendance at, it took a drunken scuffle with him over the keys before he would finally relinquish them to her.
She was glad she hadn't had to fight with him thus in at least a few months. Last time she'd gotten grass stains all across her nice blouse when they'd gone tumbling down a small hill, her body barely managing to break his fall as he went pitching forward.
God forgive her, she'd tried so hard not to notice how good he felt pressed against her at that moment.
Taking in a deep, steadying breath, Pepper walked over to the car like a prisoner being led to their execution.
"I really don't understand why Happy couldn't have been teleported here with us," she muttered as she slipped inside.
