Pepper ran her way up the stairs that led to Tony's room, her hands clutching the sheet tightly against her body, trying not to trip over the excessive material. With every anxious step, she whispered a prayer that he would be there. That she hadn't been left alone to fend for herself in this Twilight Zone-episode.
Without even bothering to give her customary knock, Pepper threw open the door and stepped over the threshold, her gaze darting about.
And there he stood...his eyes wide and bewildered as he turned around to face her from where he'd been standing looking out over the city beyond.
"Tony!"
Without even giving it a second thought, she was rushing to him and he found his arms full of a silk-clad woman. She wrapped her hold tightly about his bare chest, clinging to him like a small, fearful child.
"Oh my goodness...I don't think I've ever been happier to see you!"
It took about three seconds, but all of a sudden she became aware of the feel of his warm, bare skin against her cheek...the distinctive scent of his cologne...the broad, enticing muscles that defined his masculine physique. In that moment she also became painfully aware of the fact that she was holding onto him...wearing nothing but a sheet...her hair disheveled and mussed from sleep.
With a little squeak, she jumped back from him as she came to her senses, gathering the material that she wore tighter around her as she looked up at him and he could see a crimson blush forming across those freckled cheeks of hers.
"I mean...uhm...Mr. Stark! You're here!" Her eyes darted over towards the window and she gave a little frown out at the city. "Wherever the hell 'here' is..."
