"Note?" she asked, confusion battling the shadows on her face. "W.. you left me a... I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I didn't..." She tilted her head back and gave him a very odd look.
"I've been... I've been away," she said warily, not quite willing to tell him exactly why, just yet. "Didn't y... Haven't you been here?"
Maybe this was good. Maybe he hadn't been missing her, hadn't been wondering where she was. Maybe she'd come here to assure him -- and didn't need to. She bit her bottom lip.
