"Wash." He wedged the name in there, knowing that had to be who Zoe was talking about. There wasn't anyone else in the City that caused her this much trouble, not even himself. Despite the fact that she was caught up in thoughts of her ex, Jesse couldn't bring himself to be upset or jealous about it. He'd seen her lose the man a couple of times already. Each time it got harder and harder, he could tell. And the fact that this version of Wash was sticking around seemed to make it worse.
"Tell me what's on yer mind." He took Zoe's hand and started to lead her out of the kitchen. They could eat later. He'd order something in so that she didn't have to cook. Right now, she had to get her mind around whatever was going on.
Or she'd keep burning soup.
"You can talk to me 'bout anythin, darlin, you know that. I ain't gonna get mad or nothin. But I can't stand seein ya like this, either. Yer tearin yerself up. And there's nothin I can do, cause I can't very well beat you up for hurtin you."
