Her tone, her words themselves, let Hannibal know that she was not being flip in her first statement. Enigma had revealed more about herself to him than she realized, he thought.
And her take on those that shared the world with her was not very surprising to him at all.
"A bleak view of life, at best." He studied her. "You say that you are capable of trusting another, yet moments before you said that everybody has their price. It leads me to believe that you are always waiting for that turn. You are sure that the corner will come and you will lose what you have invested in. You don't invest much, do you."
He tracked back to the people that she had listed. The husband she did not wholly love, the other man she loved completely but could not have.
"I wish for you to delve a little deeper into the relationships that you mentioned earlier. Particularly your father and your husband. You said that your father is trying to kill you, this is actively happening? Or perhaps a constant threat? And your husband. You say that he does not like what you are, and yet you say it with no remorse of that fact. You also laid claim to loving another. Why then, are you with the man you are with, if you do not love him and he does not approve?"
