"Hm?" Wash immediately went from happy to a forehead creasing frown.
"Just...some people I've met," he said. He stretched the word 'people' when thinking of Oswin. "Wh--"
And then he was interrupted by her followup question.
"...what?" Wash replied with genuine confusion. He could tell she was angry. He hadn't been married to her that long without being able to tell her facial expression even over a grainy wave.
"I have every right to be here, Zoe. And to fix her up. It's not like I'm staging a coup," Wash said with a scoff. Surely she was joking. "C'mon, Zo. You're not really mad about this, are you?"
