Finding 'happiness' seemed like something that was so elusive, so self-serving. He had a chance to serve the City that had become his home. He was doing what he could to help those who lived here. Whenever he did find snatches of happiness, it seemed to be ephemeral. He was just starting to think that it was the way of things. Not to mention that he didn't think moving would suddenly improve his situation.
He did manage a tight smile for Fred.
"I like my apartment. And I think we should work on finding you a new place to live before we worry about anything else. I can certainly start asking around at work if you would like. Or perhaps the City has a new home waiting for you to find it. You haven't found any keys lately, have you?"
She'd been the one to suggest to him that he search his pockets for a key upon his arrival in the City, so he assumed that she would have noticed if a key had shown up amongst her things. All the same, it didn't hurt to point it out.
