Jo's eyes widened at the sound of something breaking and she was already matching Ted pace for pace in a rush to get to the kitchen and make sure Maxine was okay.
"Come on in," Jo called over her shoulder.
Wash could either let himself in or wait. Jo needed to figure out that the little girl was okay first. There was a rush of guilt that she had let her go into the kitchen on her own.
She breathed a little sigh of relief when her eyes settled on Maxine, a quick once over reassuring her that the young blonde wasn't hurt.
"Maxine, stay right there," she said, and went to the closet to find a broom.
She wasn't angry, but there was an edge of urgency to her voice that left little room for argument or disobedience.
