Oh. It dawned on Maxine, perhaps for the first time, that she didn't need a grown up to make the food for her. She'd sometimes watched her mom make things in the kitchen and helped here or there, but Maxine was excited about the prospect of scooping up her own serving of soy ice cream. It was going to be huge, like the giant pictures of ice cream sundaes she'd never had.
She was able to reach the freezer alright. She peered on her tip toes to find where the goods were stashed. Most of it was within reach but it took two light hops to nudge the carton of vegan alternative into her eager fingers. As much as it might have pained her older brother to admit, Maxine took after her stuntman father while Cliff was much more like his mother.
She left the freezer door open.
Carton placed down on the kitchen table, Maxine then climbed up onto one of the counters to search the cupboards for where Jo kept the bowls. A few seconds later there was crash and the distinct sound of broken glass. Maxine was frozen in place, and stared down in shock at the dishes she'd broken.
