Jo winced. Ted was making a lot of good points. Some were things she'd already thought of. Others... not so much. There was a little hint of panic in her eyes, but she didn't get the chance to answer as her phone went off and then Maxine shouted from the kitchen.
"Just one scoop for me," Jo called back. She didn't want the kid to have to eat alone.
She sent a text back to Wash, realizing that this could be a little hard to explain.
we're home.
She turned her attention back to Ted.
"There was a guy that helped us look for Maxine's parents. His name is Wash and he's going to be stopping by for a minute." She frowned. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about her. It just happened and..." She shrugged helplessly. "You've got a lot of good points. With what I do, I'm probably the last person that girl needs. I just couldn't trust the City with her. You don't know anyone who would be good for a little girl that might be able to communicate with animals, would you?"
Yes, Jo had noticed that particular ability. She knew Maxine was different-special. And she knew that most natives to the City wouldn't have a clue what to do with her.
