He shook his head at Jo. What? So he didn't know what San Diego was. Not a big deal right?
He started nibbling on the cuticle of his thumb nail as Maxine spoke trying to follow her. He frowned. He didn't know what a Canadian was and he didn't know what red was, aside from a color. But he did know that this was a little girl had been brought here by The City and most likely without her father.
He frowned deeply behind his thumb exchanging glances with Jo.
"Maxine, right?" he said finally. "I don't know what the Red is, but it sounds pretty...shiny. Um. But with your dad...I don't know if it's gonna be so easy to find him. Or for him to find us. But-but, if you want we can keep looking. You can ride on my shoulders! I have very strong shoulders that are just your size. And I bet if you could see a lot more from up there. And if your dad's here he'd probably be able to see you, too. So we take a few laps around, maybe get something to eat, try again if it doesn't turn out. And if it does, I can meet your father who I'm sure is an astoundingly handsome guy if you mistook me for him. What do you say?"
Then he caught Jo's eye and mouthed, "What's a Canadian?"
