"San Diego is a city!" Maxine protested. Who didn't know that San Diego was a city? The five year old stared at Wash cautiously: "...Are you Canadian?"
Maxine looked around, trying to get a better idea of where she was, or how she got there. It didn't make sense. She'd been in her living room looking at the map of The Red that had appeared on her father's body. They were going to fix the Red. It was sick.
"The Red is really, really different here. Back home it got sick, but this Red isn't sick and it's practically, like, a baby. Some people are part of the baby Red but you and you aren't."
Maxine was trying to work through what that meant.
"...All of the Earth has the same Red. So this is like a baby Earth. My dad will still find us though."
