Jo looked at the guy like he was from outerspace. Who didn't know where San Diego was?
If only she realized how right that observation was. She frowned and tried to figure out how to answer Maxine's question. She'd really hoped to get the young girl sittign down and hopefully with copious amounts of (vegan, apparently) treats before she broke the news.
She knelt beside Wash and Maxine.
"I'm so sorry, sweetie. We're a long way from San Diego. We're still going to do what we can to see if we can get in touch with your dad, but he... there's a chance he's not here."
Jo didn't know the first thing about kids, but she didn't believe in lying to them if she could help it. Even if that meant ripping the band-aid off sometimes. Even if she hated herself for it.
