Jo looked down in surprise as a young girl tugged on her hand and started to speak. She even had a smile in place because the kid was really cute and Jo didn't know many kids that didn't need rescuing from the things that hid under beds and in closets. Her smile froze in place and then quickly faded at the words that followed.
Her gaze shifted to the brochure and then back to the young girl. Now that just made her angry. What sort of person saw a kid this young wandering around and just threw a brochure at them without trying to help?
Jo knelt so she was at eye level with Maxine.
"Hey, I'm Jo Harvelle," she introduced herself. "I'm not sure if we'll be able to call your dad, but if you come with me, I can get you something to eat and we'll see what we can do to sort all of this out."
And then after, she was going to find a way to force the City back into that body it'd had months ago and kick its ass for taking kids this young from their parents. No kid should have to lose her family. Especially not one this age.
