That did cause a smile in her. After everything that the car had told her, his own brother saying something about porn was pretty funny. Annie felt a little guilty laughing when Fred had just died. She hoped that Fred would understand.
"Okay. That should be easy enough."
Annie opened the top of the laptop but didn't turn it on. If there was a virus in there, it might replicate every time power went to the machine. The fact that Sam was having issues even when it wasn't online meant that whatever was wrong, it was bad. Deeply implanted. Possibly in the very core of everything.
She took a breath and hoped that it wasn't porn. That was not something she needed to see today. Annie delved into the machine, racing along the wires and connections.
"Good news, it's not porn. Bad news, it's in your DOS."
Annie worked through the machine, doing everything she could to eradicate the virus everywhere she saw it. She was almost done when she realized that she hadn't found the starting infection. If she just left it like it was, then Sam's laptop would be fine for a few days, and then it'd be right back to the state it'd been in.
She chewed on her lip, searching. It was in the last place she'd ever have thought to look. A file containing the settings for a music player. Not even the player itself. Just where the settings were stored. She smiled, proud of herself. And it was gone.
Annie pulled herself out of the computer and looked back up at Sam.
