Dinah laughed softly. It wasn't exactly a happy laugh, but she supposed that the more things changed... She shook her head.
"I spent years living with a man who forgot my birthday every damn year. While I'd like it if you remembered, it's just a day. The more important thing is how you treat me on a day to day basis. I'm not exactly the 'big gesture on that one day a year' sort of girl."
She nudged the gift over to him.
"Open it. Um. It's not what it looks like. That's sort of the point though."
She had just now realized that the ring box and even the ring inside might seem strange or suspect. Especially since it seemed like weddings were starting to be a theme at least among their enemies.
She loved him and she loved living with him, but Dinah wasn't sure if she ever wanted to get married again. She'd tried twice and it hadn't worked and she liked things exactly the way they were, so why mess with that? She thought it was important to make sure that Dean didn't jump to any conclusions that could lead to awkward conversations about that sort of thing, so it was better to just clear that up upfront until she could explain what the ring inside the box actually did.
