Kidnapping a Puzzle (Edward)
There were few things Enigma could turn away from, shiny gemstones, her father...and the latest technological goodies. So when the invite came to invite her to a limited showing of the latest and greatest on offering in the tech world, she didn’t think twice, leaving the invite with Timmy as a note to Bruce of where she ran off to, before she headed downstairs.

And one day, she would remember there was a reason she employed Marcus besides being adorable.

She groaned as she sat up, chains clinking as she raised her hands to her spinning head. She didn't remember much, a building, a rush of something not being right, and then it all went dark, though judging by the pounding in her head and the taste in her mouth, she had a feeling that she had been gassed, her head hitting the floor as she collapsed.

“Hello?” she called out, testing where she was and if there was anyone with her.

Edward didn't often get invitations to things, besides the wedding of his daughter to that scumbag scientist, something he still wasn't very happy about, so when he recieved an invitation to some kind of expo on ancient artifacts, Edward got excited. He didn't care about technology, that wasn't his field though he could be good at it when he chose to be. His heart rested in goodies, stuff that was old and worth the heist. He capered down the hallways in Arkham, holding up the invitation, showing his obvious excitement at the prospect of seeing rare finds.

He left the invitation on Jonathan's desk, so the man would know where he was considering Jonathan had all but forbidden him to leave Arkham, especially without escorts, but Eddie couldn't help it. He could deal with Jonathan's wrath later. He wasn't afraid of no scarebeast!

Then of course, he found out the hard way that Jonathan was right. He'd forgotten how cross Jack was with him for ratting him out to the goodie goodies, all caught up in chasing down artifacts that didn't actually exist.

Edward had woken up before Enigma had, his own chains clinking as he moved, having given up on trying to escape earlier when he found that the bonds were securly attatched to him. He had been stripped of his weapons, of course, so that was out of the question. His head was pounding, which made him irritated, and his mouth was dry and harbored a nasty taste of gas of some kind.

"Enigma, shut up, I'm trying to think." Edward growled, not really sure where they were exactly, sighing softly.

"Daddy?" she whispered, before her brain caught up with his words and she glared in the direction of his voice. "Trying, failing, same thing with you," she muttered.

She shifted, laying sideways on the bed and curling into a fetal position, her head close to her knees, which brought it close to her hands as well. She fished through her hair, pulling out the comb that held her hair up, smirking at the oddly shaped teeth of the metal comb.

Teeth that were shaped, 'conveniently' enough, like the five most common lock pick ends. She was suddenly glad she had wore this comb over her normal ones.

She slipped the flower end of the comb into her mouth, gagging on the cloth as she pulled the lock picks free, spitting the flower out after a moment before reaching down to her feet, choosing the easiest lock to start with. She closed her eyes, preferring to do it by feel since she couldn't see anything anyway, pleased that the chains locking her were old, which would just make it easier as she set to work.

It took longer then she was happy with, feeling that should have gone faster, but the chains happily hit the floor, freeing her legs and leaving her with her hands to unbind.

He made a face at her reply, rolling his eyes at her. She had interrupted his train of thought, and he wasn't as handy as she was with shackles. Obviously. He shifted for a moment, trying to figure out where the train had de-railed, before hearing her shackles moving and shifting.

It seemed after a long moment that hers had hit the floor, realizing that by the clank they made when settling against the cement of the room they were in. He sighed, lifting his own shackles up, looking over at her, "Baby be a doll and unlock daddy. Peas and carrots?" He said, pouting at her needily.

He needed Jonathan, wherever he was hiding, having a feeling he was still toying with his prize. That damn girl, always in his way. Beauty, not enigma though she did get in his way too just less often.

"And just why should I do that, daddy?" she asked, smirking to herself as she worked on her wrists using her fingertips and teeth, finally getting them free and standing, stretching.

"After all, if you're all chained up like a little toy, you can't hurt me."

She wasn't stupid, and she knew he hated her, what was the point of giving him free reign to harm her down here in the dark, where no one would find them?

"I can't hurt you, lovely, I have nothing to hurt you with." He explained, then shrugged his shoulders, "Maybe if you let me go ill play nice with your boy toy. Maybe even have a heart to heart and try to get along." He said softly, knowing that more than anything she would want them to get along. They were the two most important men in her life after all. And he could at least try.

"What do you say, kiddo? Let your ole dad go? So he can make amends with your dear darling husband to be?" He replied, grinning, "Can't make up if I'm here by myself in the dark."

"I don't trust you," she said blandly, but she knelt between his legs, sitting slightly on his leg cuffs to best reach his hands. She was his daughter, and he was the most important person to her, the idea of leaving him alone, chained in the dark...

She couldn't do it, no matter how much her brain screamed at her that she was being stupid.

She got the cuffs and chains from his wrists easily since it was different then working on herself, before moving down to his feet, pausing and looking up at him. "Give me a hug," she demanded.

Not trusting him was probably the right thing to do, especially since he was trying to use Bruce to get what he wanted out of her, but of course it worked. She had freed his wrists and that made him proud.

Of course, then she wanted a hug.

"Oh a hug!" He said, leaning over to grasp her by the shoulders with his free hands pulling her close to him, hugging her tightly against him. "Thank you! Now we can figure out how to get out of this damn room once you unlock the chains on my ankles."

She bit her lip, her fingers curling into his suit jacket, breathing deeply the smell of his cologne and hair gel, before pulling away and silently working on his ankles, savoring those scents, the feel of his arms around him.

She got his ankles free in half the time, wanting to please him, pulling them away from his skin and checking to make sure he hadn't injured himself before standing, pushing down her business skirt, replacing the lock picks in the comb.

"I'm guessing by the fact you're her this doesn't have something to do with Bruce or Stark, so it's something against our family specifically."

He held onto her for a moment, sniffing her hair secretly, almost melting at the smell of her shampoo before releasing her. Eddie didn't hug many people, hugging wasn't his thing but if it got him out of here safely, he would oblige her a hug or two.

Once she freed his ankles, he moved them around without the shackles, pulling at the legs of his slacks, adjusting them. "Probably something to do with the fact that we both betrayed Jack." He replied, having a good idea that the clown was somehow involved in this.

"He's probably watching us right now, laughing his damn head off." Eddie said, eyes narrowing. He was starting to really hate that clown.

Enigma's eyes matched her father's, her hand curling into a fist, growling softly. "I am getting so sick of him! I sent the stupid Canary after him to finish him off once and for all, and what do we end up with...a dark, dank cell somewhere. Honestly, you can't get good help these days," she said, huffing.

"So what do we do now? Besides get out of here. We can't let this stand, daddy," she said, feeling along the wall, slowly finding what should be been the door, frowning as she felt around it. "Uh...daddy...we have a slight problem."

"Ugh me too! At least he talks to you. I don't even get to participate in his plans. Not important enough for Jackie." Eddie said with a pout. He was just mad he wasn't involved in anything diabolical or maniacal. He was a villain too!

At mentioned of the Canary, Eddie growled, "That stupid bird knocked me out with her scream. She can't do anything right!" He explained, shaking his head. He was tired of the useless women running around in the streets.

"Problem?" He inquired, reaching a hand out, touching the wall with his fingers.

"I told her not to harm you! God, fucking dammit, I'm going to hurt her," she hissed, glaring at the door before taking his hand and leading it over to a metal plate. "There was a door here at one time, but apparently, they're not that stupid...it's been sealed over with a metal plate, probably steel."

"Yeah! She handcuffed me too. What a stupid woman." He said, shaking his head at the idea. "She even told me she promised you she wouldn't hurt me. But that didn't stop her. She can be the first one to die once we get out of here."

He touched the place where the door should've been, frowning. "Hm. How interesting. Where is that husband of yours when we need him?"

"In his lab," she said, searching her suit before pulling out Timmy's controls, smirking as she pulled a small bluetooth from the back, hooking it over her ear and pressing a button.

Mama?

"Timmy, darling, I need you to tell Papa something for Mama..."

Mama, I can't hear you well, you're out of range almost. I will get Papa for you...

There was silence, and then the connection cut out completely as Timmy moved even further out of range, keeping them apart. Cursing, Enigma threw the console aside, knowing that if she couldn't reach Timmy, cellphones wouldn't work, even if she had been left with her. "He's getting Bruce, but it doesn't help if I can't connect any longer," she said, sighing. "Got a blow torch?"

Eddie stood there, arms folded over his chest expectantly, frowning when Enigma failed to contact the only man that could probably get them out of this situation. So much for trading in a life of crime for gadgets and fancy toys.

"Yeah right. Blow torch. I don't even have a gun, baby, let alone a blow torch." He said, looking at the dark outline of the wall.

"Well a gun wouldn't be much help, daddy, unless you're planning on committing murder suicide," she pointed out, feeling along the plate, hoping for a crack or break, anything she could exploit.

Sighing, she leaned back on her heels, looking up at him, even though she couldn't see him in the darkness. "Alright, genius, got any ideas?"

Maybe he was. Or at least a murder, but she didn't have to know that. Instead he kept his face straight and studied the door. He was fresh out of ideas for the moment.

With a defeated sigh, he shook his head at her, "Sorry baby, I got nothing. I was counting on your man to come break it down but we can't even get that." He said, turning and walking away. He stood there for a second, with his back to her, mind racing.

"Yeah, it's easy to rely on Bruce and Tony more then one should," she muttered, thinking of recent events and her own about face in order to seek their protection from the nightmare clown, burying her urges and impulses, her desires and lusts under her need to survive to keep from acting out, to keep them happy.

She felt like she was going to explode every night she laid in bed next to Bruce without breaking something, holding a shimmering gemstone in her hand...feeling the warm, silken rush of blood over her hands.

"How did you stand going straight?" she asked, looking at his back. She knew he had failed at it, that he had returned to crime...but for a while, he had a good life as a detective, as a man on the right side of law.

How did he handle the compulsion, the need...

"No kidding. We could really use their help about now." He replied, turning to look over at her in the darkness.

When she asked him about going straight, he snickered a little, knowing what she meant but finding it worth the giggle.

"Duality, darling. Hero by day, criminal by night. You can never shake your impulses completely. You just get good at hiding them from the people that are looking. When you know what to look for yourself, you know exactly how to hide." Eddie explained. He was the master at keeping secrets and hiding things. He hid his love for her quite well actually.

She tilted her head in thought as she shifted, pulling off her heels, kicking them aside before drawing her knees up and resting her chin on them, smirking. "You just don't want me to go play hero again," she said, teasingly, though she kept his words in mind, turning them over and over again.

A chance to be both...

She wouldn't turn that down if she could pull it off.

"Play where you want, baby but remember your roots. You're never going to be the hero that you once wanted to be. No matter what. It's not easy washing blood off of your hands." He explained, offering her simple fatherly advice.

Being both was hard as well, which is why he had lapsed back into the life of crime.

"I miss killing," she whispered softly, staring at the darkness ahead of her. "I miss the rush, the pleasure...I miss watching people beg and plead, screaming for their lives, so very desperate, and knowing that nothing they said would get me to let them go."

She clammed her mouth shut, unable to believe she actually admitted that aloud.

"I miss the fighting, the adrenaline...the rush of hearing someone behind you, trying to catch you, the sound of an alarm piercing the night as you take some of the world's most priceless treasures, the feel of them in your hands and arms, the pride when you set them in place in your collection..."

He was glad to hear her admissions, grinning wide at her as she spoke. He moved to her, pausing before her dark outline, setting his hands on her shoulders gently, "Thats right baby. It's the good life. The life of darkness. You were born for it and to it. Nigma's were destined for greatness and you're no exception!" He said, proudly.

He was prouder of her in that moment than he'd been her entire life.

She beamed at his words, a rush of warmth and happiness feeling her as he praised her, willingly touched her, being her father in that moment. She had wanted nothing in her life, but making him happy, needing his praise, and to have it, even in this dark hole, made everything brighter and happy.

She then snorted, giggling slightly. "Well, we may be destined for greatness, but we're still in a hole," she muttered, stretching out, her legs tangling with his slightly so he couldn't move away from her for the moment, before releasing him. "We need to figure out a way to send a signal out of wherever we are."

"Don't ruin the moment." He said, glaring at her, pulling his hands from her shoulders, letting his limbs fall back to his sides. She might be happy now, but he didn't think she had it in her to really be the daughter he could want. She was far too good.

"Too bad bats isn't here, we could use his." He said, sliding a pen out from the lining of his coat, clicking the part on the top that illuminated the laser pointer. "But I do have this."
