You're Hired? (Tony)
"He will see you now," Tony's receptionist said, looking the redheaded woman over. Enigma did her best not to make a face as she stood and grabbed her laptop case, walking into Tony's office.

She pulled her jacket off, not looking up at the man yet as she opened her hard case, sliding her resume across the table at Tony (which of course did not include her illicit activities, but was truthful over the fact she had been arrested in Gotham), before taking a seat, for once not on him or the desk, but across from him, crossing a leg over the other, pulling down her skirt, finally looking up at him.

"I have samples of all of the projects described, though you've met Timmy," she stated, waiting for him to review the resume.

She hadn't come out right and asked him for a job, but she had set up the meeting as an interview (even if she didn't give her name...or a name he would recognize as hers, unless the wedding invite arrived before her), but it was obvious what she was after.

This time Tony was actually doing business things instead of wanking off to porn. He was dressed in a suit accordingly and looking at how it would be to renovate the lower levels and start producing things, since it didn't make sense to keep it office spaces for managing a company in another universe.

He'd been looking to hire somebody to oversee that, and when his secretary let him know there was somebody looking for a job he'd agreed to the meeting.

Still, he shouldn't have been surprised when he saw who exactly came in.

"You're dressed to impress," he said, glad that she seemed to be coming in civilly. He had enjoyed a half naked woman in his lap, sure, but she was untouchable as long as Bruce wanted her. Not to mention she wasn't Tony's type, and then now there was Annie. Or maybe the blonde should have been the first reason?

He picked up the resume, looking it over, thinking about it for a moment. In truth, he knew how capable the girl was. And when she wasn't trying to hack his computers or acting like a spoiled brat or messing with his best friend, she wasn't that bad. And the projects weren't a bad list.

"If you work here you're not going to be hacking my computers anymore. At all. I don't care about anybody else's. And anything criminal you have on the side stops," he said, glancing at her. He didn't have proof of anything, but he'd heard rumors. He turned and put the papers into what looked like a long bar, which processed them and scanned them into the computer database.

"I'm looking for somebody to revamp the downstairs offices. I'm thinking a production facility in case the City needs emergency supplies, and then some software work to establish money flow that isn't coming out of thin air." He leaned forward and picked up his drink, which was always nearby, handing her back her resume as the scanner finished its work. "That's the job that's open."

"I always dress to impress, Mr. Stark. This time I'm not trying to get into your pants but your wallet...kind of." She listened to his rules, pouting at them slightly, more for the rule against her criminal activity over the hacking, she had already promised Bruce she wouldn't hack Jarvis again (even if he was annoying her, and no, making him speak French was not cute).

She shrugged. "I'm not a criminal," she said eaily, lying through her teeth. "I was acquitted of the charges in Gotham." And so far, she hadn't been publicly accused of anything in The City.

She listened to the job offer, before smirking. "Stark, I would stand there and pour your drinks until my brain dribbled out my ear if it would keep me busy."

And not committing mass murder.

"When do you want me to start?"

Tony just nodded to the assertion that she was an innocent. He didn't need an honest rap sheet to know shadey when he saw it.

"Well. I won't forget that offer, but for now running the company and keeping between me and paperwork is good enough for me," he said, leaning forward and typing some commands into the computer. "They'll have a badge and list of access codes for you downstairs. Start when you want. And feel free to do things your own way, but directional shift decisions should be run by me before I ignore them and you figure out what works best."

He turned towards her and then stood up, picking up his empty glass, going to his office mini bar and picking up a bottle, examining it for a moment. "Champagne to celebrate?" Not that he needed a reason to drink more, but why make a visit all business if they knew each other, or didn't?

She nodded her consent to his words before grinning at the offer. "I would like that," she said, slipping from his chair and onto his desk. It wasn't another attempt at hitting on him, considering she stayed to her part of the desk, but just who she was. She rarely did 'normal' thing, like sitting in chairs properly.

She crossed her legs, leaning them on the chair she had just vacated, poking at some of the papers on his desk before deciding to actually do what she was supposed to and sweeping them into her arms, sorting through what she actually needed and what were parts of his private work, setting those back on the desk without really looking at them.

The rest, she bundled into her laptop case for later review, knowing she would need at least a few hours to get through everything and be on top of it. "Did the wedding invitation come yet?"

"Jarvis mentioned something about it," Tony nodded, opening the bottle and pouring them both a glass, walking over to her and handing her one of the glasses. "I'll be bringing Annie."

He knew Annie didn't think much of Enigma, based on the troubles she and her relationship with Bruce had caused around the labs and Enigma's hacking. He didn't really know what the redhead thought of the blonde, though, or if they'd even really met properly. It wasn't really his business to know since Annie's issues had been addressed and as far as he knew she was placated on the matter.

"To using our collective powers for goodishness," he said, offering a toast.

"Of course you will," Enigma muttered. She didn't really have an opinion of the woman considering she had never met her, it was simply the fact that she was chosen over Enigma to share Tony's time that annoyed her.

Not that Enigma had ever persued him for anything beyond sex, but she would admit to the rare, idle fantasy back in New York, of being 'the one' over one of several.

She smiled at his toast, lightly tapping her glass against his before taking a sip. "Thank you for your get well basket, by the way. It was...enjoyable." She had sampled some of everything from the basket, including some of the substances she probably shouldn't have and it did have the intended effect of cheering her up quite a bit.

"Bruce does not thank you, however, considering he found me dancing around the room when I was supposed to be in bed."

"Oh? Do I detect a tone of dissapproval?" Tony wasn't the type to let mutters escape notice. He liked to tease and investigate, to figure out what was going through people's minds, even if it usually resulted in him mocking them for it.

The basket made him nod. "Well. Jarvis put together most of it. But I was hoping you'd share that particular bit with the big guy. Never seen him strung out on anything before." He was glad to throw a bone to anybody who pissed off a super villain bad enough to be targeted by them. "Glad you found it useful though. Can't stand being stuck in a bed feeling thrashed myself, unless it's the morning after a big party."

"Of course you do, because she's not me," Enigma said, actually sticking her tongue out at Tony, but it was all in jest. She took another sip of the champagne, almost snorting it as he mentioned Bruce getting high. "He doesn't drink, doesn't smoke and certainly would not enjoy parts of that basket no matter how much I begged, pleaded and pouted at him."

She shook her head. "And trust me, that was one party you really would not have enjoyed. "At least dad just shoots me."

He smirked. "Even if it weren't her, and Bruce came to his senses and went for a quiet nerd girl that wouldn't get his pulse up to green, even I'm not self destructive enough to take you on, gorgeous."

There could only be one severely dysfunctional person in a relationship, even a purely sexual one. If you pressed your luck and had two people who regularly needed to be rescued, picked up, or cleaned up, it all started to fall apart and compound the problem, eventually turning into a black-hole scenario.

"Finally. Somebody with bigger daddy issues than myself. Next time daddy dearest decides to take a potshot at you, let me know. I don't get to blow up enough villains in this world."

"Pity, we could have done interesting things together," she said with a grin. "Or destroyed the City, same difference." She ignored the bit about Bruce choosing a quiet nerd over her, slightly annoyed by the comment, but choosing to let it go.

"I'll be sure to give you the heads up next time Daddy's trying to murder me...provided he doesn't just shoot me in the head and put me out of his misery."

She drained her glass, standing and moving to the bar, refilling it with scotch, leaving him the champagne. "I am sorry about setting Hulk lose in your building by the way."

Tony would never think that Enigma and Bruce were a great match. Well, not in the forseeable future anyway, but she had turned out to be less disasterous than he'd figured. "Yeah. If we didn't kill each other off first."

He nodded to her statement about her father. He wasn't sure what it would be like to be in a family that was that messed up. His dad hadn't liked him and shipped him off every chance, sure, but that was a fairly common story. Lost of guys didn't like their dads, and lots of dads didn't like their sons.

He waved off her apology. "Hey. It happens with him. And I'm trying to set him off at some point anyway, so you just beat me to the punch initially. I am, however, very curious about getting some of that serum you used on him. I don't think he's ever had anything that could bring him back from the brink like that."

"I wouldn't kill ya, you're too cute. Possibly shoot ya a bit," she teased, sliding back onto the desk. "You can thank Doctor Crane for that drug, it was designed for something a lot more creepy then the Hulk. I can get you a sample for you to poke at, I don't know what's in it. I just bug Jonathan until he gives me some to get me out of his office."

Which pretty much defined her relationship with her sort of step-father, bothering the hell out of the other until they took action...such as siccing Joker on the teenager.

"Well, having some around is definitely a good idea. Whatever it was made for it calms down the green giant. Wouldn't mind being able to outfit the Iron Man suit with a tranq."

Her mention of the stepfather made him pause. "You just got your clock cleaned and you're headed back to the shop to poke around some more?" he said, eyes narrowing slightly. It didn't seem like a good idea to him.

"My father is at Arkham, not to mention Jonathan has the only tranquilizer in the city...I kinda have to go back over there to get some," she pointed out. "I could send Marcus, but I'm always afraid Daddy's going to shoot him one of these days just to spite me."

Not to mention shooting her, but she liked to think their relationship had changed from him trying to kill her...mostly.

"Unless you think they'll give it to Iron Man?"

"I think that's a call you'd be better at making. I haven't met them," Tony said, refilling his drink and going back to his desk, looking at her. "If you think they would it's something I could get done."

He wasn't the type to send young women into the line of fire because a job was boring. And he wouldn't mind meeting the infamous couple anyway, sizing them up properly.

"Mm, Jonathan might...he does seem to like paying with superheroes, plus he's trying to maintain some sort of facade at actually not being a madman," she said with a snort, before nodding. "I can always distract dad if you don't want to be shot at."

"I've been shot at pleanty. But maybe I'll wear the suit in case I need to shoot back," he smirked. Or just a gauntlet. A lot of things could be achieved with a single repulsor.

He rubbed the arm of the chair, frowning at a mark in the leather, then glanced at her. "So. Daddy dearest going to give you away at the wedding?"

"More then likely not. He hates this wedding more then you do. When I told him about it, I thought that he was going to kill me for it," she said softly, revealing a bit of the teenage girl she was, rather then the slutty bitch she portrayed. She bit her lip, before shaking her head and draining her scotch, eager not to think about how it made her feel.

Her father...was everything to her. Next to Bruce of course.

"Sorry, I get depressed, and that is not celebratory," she said, forcing a smile on her face.

That got a slight smirk. "Miss.... what is it. Nashton. If I hated the wedding the wedding wouldn't be happening." It was probably one of his more arrogant assessments, but he said it to indicate something positive. "I'm cautiously dissapproving at the most. But hey, you two crazy kids have proven me wrong most of the time so far."

He gave her a glimmer of a sympathetic look, then leaned over to refill her drink, face going back to neautral.

"There is no reason we can't be civil. It sounds like you have enough drama in your life with two gay psycopaths for parental units, and frankly, I just handed you the keys to my company, so I propose we start over."

It was an offer of truce, which while Tony didn't have a problem making, he also rarely did it. Usually he didn't care enough to. But the blend of her marrying his best friend, taking over his paper work headaches, and having quite possibly the worst heritage of any universe seemed to bend his usual attitude about such things.

She made a face at him using her name, but knew she would have to get used to it if she wanted a life outside crime in the city. 'Enigma' was the operatic diva who tired to kill the star, 'Effie' was the redheaded sorta-CEO to Stark Industries who kept Tony from running it into the ground by avoiding the paperwork and projects.

"Fine, but you should call me Effie instead, considering your'e the closest thing Bruce has to family," she stated, leaning in and placing a soft, gentle kiss on Tony's cheek, as she would her own best friend or siblings. "And in the spirit of fresh starts, you were right about me," she confessed, studying her glass, admiring the way the light sparkled through the cyrstal. "I was a jewel thief and murder in Gotham, after I left the Titans. However, I have given up that line of work...mostly because playing with Joker and my father is not conductive to my health, were as playing nice with you and Dinah is."

She looked at him. "I will never be sweet and kind, but you have nothing to fear about my criminal past. I will not jeopardize your company nor Bruce."

She wasn't sure yet if Tony had spoken with Dinah about the attack on the city from Joker and Scarecrow, but she guessed that someone who ran around as a hero would have methods of avoiding the gas anyway.

The kiss on the cheek was a surprise. Tony stayed very still, waiting for her to follow it with a punch. But none came, so for the first time in quite a while he was left wihout much to say.

"Well, I sold weapons of mass destruction to every major power in the West, including terrorist groups. Well, not me, but the company I wasn't keeping track of. Live an learn," he said. Some of the most destructive minds could also be some of the greatest builders, who was he to judge?

"I know you won't. Because I'm making the company your project, so you can get your ego involved. And if Jarvis notices anything weird he'll let me know," he said, smiling at her as he leaned back in his seat and watching her, a teasing look dancing across his eyes.

"And yet you're not paying attention again," she teased, grinning at him. "Mmm, I do so love getting my ego involved. Soon we'll have to rename it Nigma Industries," she said with a grin, flicking her tongue at him before draining her glass.

She stood, getting another drink as well as refilling his before sliding onto the desk in front of him, rather then across from him, her legs resting between his, though with her legs closed this time. "You realize if we keep this up, we might have to become friends."

"I have a short attention span. But put a few things into place so I don't have to," he said. "Jarvis. You. ....stuff." He leaned back in his chair with a slight smirk. The name change comment got a slight eye roll, but a good natured one. "I offered that to Pepper. She wanted to own it, not have it named after her. Nice to know you're not as demanding."

The friends comment was considered for a moment before he shook his head. "Nah. I don't have friends. I have employees, ass kissers, tailors, a barber, and a woman." Of course that left out Bruce. "And an intellectual equal with a really cool alter ego."

She frowned at his comment, closing off from him. "I see," she stated, sliding off the desk and finishing her drink, setting it aside. "Then I guess I should get to work, as that is what you hired me fore."

She grabbed her jacket and briefcase, smothering her feelings with a wall of cool indifference. "Thank, Mr. Stark, I will enjoy working with you."

Tony didn't quite understand why that pissed her off so much. She hadn't even liked him at all before she requested a job. Still, he'd never made a habit out of delving into other people's emotions or thoughts. He was too busy shutting out most of his own.

"Looking forward to seeing what you do with it," he said, because he was. He took his drink and turned back to his computer to finish a round of his own work.
