That description matched many buildings here. She supposed Wash really had not been here long, at all. But she smiled.
"I have an apartment, but..."
Her eyes lowered, looking down at her feet, tucked into their salmon-colored satin pointe shoes.
"... I'm not staying there right now."
She hadn't thought it would be safe to stay there, to potentially destroy all of her things in a fit, and she did not want Hannibal to have to watch her so carefully.
"I'm staying at a hotel, if you want to visit. Get away from the urine smell." River knew exactly how many rooms the hotel had, and how many were occupied. She kept it in her head and checked to be sure she was correct every day.
"You could meet my boyfriend," River said. "He's taking care of me." She swallowed, and her face darkened just a little. "For now."
