Christine slept well enough knowing he slept safely in the other room. She disliked their rooms being so distant though and, at times, had taken to sleeping in a room near by. Just for her own peace of mind if for nothing else. But tonight she tossed and turned and the urge to go sit with him was too overwhelming. She knew he didn't have to sit with him every moment of every day, just check in from time to time, but she preferred to see him more than a few minutes a day. After all, she hadn't left the manor since he came back from seeing Hannibal. She had moments of fresh air. A walk around the outside of the manor or occasionally to the edge of the water.
She couldn't let him see how worried she felt. She had been asked not to. It would stress him too much. Standing by the water it was easy enough to calm her beating heart and prepare herself for the next time she checked on him. But she did not have that option tonight so she simply opened her window and leaned out for a few minutes. Let her mind clear. She knew without a doubt that she would be through in his bedroom again soon. She couldn't keep away. A few more deep breaths and she was pulling on her robe and leaving her room.
Christine knew that perhaps she should find something to amuse herself given she already knew she would be by his side for as long as possible. A book or something. But she had no time. She could go back to the room and collect something, especially since she knew she should go back given she realised that she had forgotten her slippers, but Christine already felt the pull to his room. So she kept walking. Her left hand rubbed at her right arm, still getting use to the lack of cast, and when she arrived at his door she slipped in silently.
Her eyes took him in as she closed the door quietly behind her. He looked okay. Not as bad as he had in the past. Brighter. She smiled and walked the path she knew well now to the chair she had placed by his bed. She was just about to sit as she heard a noise leave him and she quickly looked back to him. Christine's lips lifted into a smile and she ever so gently sat on the edge of his bed, hand finding his.
"Hello. You should not be awake," she told him softly, the smile evident in her tone. She was happy to see him awake actually.
