"It's not something I've broadcasted," Bruce said with a devil-may-care grin. As he turned to head back into the room where he and Alfred had been spending Christmas, Alfred stayed behind. It gave Bruce the moments he needed to clean up the evidence of the investigation he was working on beside their Christmas tree.
"Ah, Miss Dinah," he said warmly. "May I?" And when she agreed to allow him to open the present she brought, he did it with all the decorum of an English gentleman, first setting the present on a nearby end table, then gently unwrapping the bow, then sliding his fingers delicately under the tape, and finally removing and folding the paper. And by his quiet exclamation and moments spent turning the box around and around in his hands, he showed his genuine appreciation. "It's lovely, my dear. I shall put it to good use."
And, with the present under one arm, he offered the other to Dinah to walk her into the room where he was sure Bruce had cleared away the things he needed to.
