"Indeed." Hannibal agreed. Whether his agreement was about who he was thinking of, or how short her lifespan might become if she didn't change her ways was not identified. If he'd known Erik's own thoughts, he might have given voice to his ideas and the determination that strangulation was too easy for somebody who occasionally tortured her beautiful instrument.
"They likely didn't want to worry you, and thus incur my wrath upon themselves." He smiled a little bit, giving light to what he'd said and Erik's potential anger at the matter. It was not the time to stir up trouble, nor was it the time in which Erik could handle these matters himself. Soon enough, the man would be back at his work and all of these problems settled.
He took Erik's last statement as his cue to say goodbye. As much as Hannibal enjoyed speaking with Erik, there was still rest and recovery to be had. Hannibal stood and gathered up empty pill bottles, then checked the wiring on Erik's heart monitor to be sure, swapping out the battery for a fresh one. The main worry and cause for the machine to be there was past, but Hannibal would take no chances.
"I will look, thank you." He said, as he began to depart. "I have enjoyed working with and for you."
Hannibal closed Erik's bedroom door softly behind him, and left the palace thinking back once again, on the surgery.
... Only the smallest tinge of blood darkened a section of his lip as he swallowed the morsel. Satisfaction burned in his eyes.
