"I don't think listening to me for days is a good idea. I did it for a few years, and it just sounds like crazy talk sometimes." Fred was trying to make a joke. Christian had smiled now and then, but he was a sad fellow. He'd even told her why. Maybe that was why she was so kind. Although, even she could be mean, sort of.
"Okay." She leaned over so slightly against him, her head lowering to his shoulder for just a moment, a sort of sideways hug. But, soon she was pulling away to watch the sugar water fall, creating a cloud of particulates in the green absinthe.
"You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want. I'll still be curious, but I can wait. I'm pretty certain I can wait." She gave him a a quick smile and a light pat to the thigh - it was the closest part of him, honest.
"Sit in silence or would you like to tell me about any new foods you've had? I must sound like a walking stomach. Food food food. Feeeeed me." She rolled her eyes at herself, giving an awkward laugh. Yes, her friend Christian needed some happier times as far as she was concerned.
