Christine had been rather hoping that they could dance again as they did last time they attended a gala but would not ask. She asked last time and although he had agreed she didn't want to appear too forward. So she stood with her arm tucked neatly against his, watching those on the floor with a content smile. She wished she could be more clear on who she was standing with but until he felt happy to announce their engagement she would not. She would not anger him.
"Everything has gone so well tonight," she told him, though her eyes remained on those around them. Everyone seemed so happy. He had to be pleased with it. She hoped so. He deserved happiness and deserved to enjoy something he put so much into. Besides, they were finally getting to spend some time together after he had been working so hard.
But then he was speaking her name and she finally looked at him. A frown came to her face straight away. Something didn't sit well with her as he spoke. The look on his face. She wasn't sure what, and she wasn't going to worry him by making it obvious, so she pushed away the frown and smiled, nodding.
"Of course."
The fact he left her so quickly was another hint. She watched him leave and then immediately set about searching for Hannibal. When she finally found him she felt both relieved and scared. He was a doctor. Erik knew that, surely. Did he know something was wrong?
"Monsieur? Forgive me, Erik wishes to see you." She wondered if her worry was clear on her face.
