Jesse sighed, his head dipping down. Wash. This was Wash. He'd not seen the man's face previously when they'd been about to meet, because as Zoe had introduced them, the guy had vanished, the City sending him back to wherever he'd come from.
He took a very long drag off his cigarette and then a very long drink from his glass, draining the latter of all liquid. This was not good. This was so very not good. But he couldn't just keep silent on this matter. Sooner or later, Wash would find out anyway. Best to do it now while there was already pain and all this wouldn't be recalled and all of it heaped back on.
"I got some real bad news for ya, Wash." Jesse poured more whiskey for himself, and swallowed that, too. "Seems you and I, we got somethin in common."
Turning on the bar stool so that he could look Wash in the eye while he said it, like a real man, Jesse put out the butt of his smoke and shook his head sadly.
"Seems like I'm the one who took yer wife from ya. Zoe's the gal I'm talkin 'bout."
