Lois nodded and closed her notebook after she made the note about the name. She had what she needed, and she'd respect his wishes.
"Just know that if people start getting hurt right and left, I won't have a choice but to print it," she told him. "But as long as that doesn't happen, I'll do what I can to make sure this story stays on the shelf."
That extended to doing what she could to keep any of her fellow reporters off the trail. Lois didn't like cover-ups, but there were times when it was better to keep something out of print. Not many, but this just might be one of them.
She watched him for a minute.
"As of now, this entire conversation is off the record, but why tell me? If you don't want it printed, why trust me with the story?"
She could understand wanting to get the word out quietly, but she wondered why he'd chosen to entrust her with his story.
