Annie looked at her feet. "They're not too bad, but I don't know how I'd fare against sidewalk cracks and the amount of wine I have had. I'm a little bit tipsy."
She paused a moment. Then, using Tony as support, leaned over, slipping one shoe off and then the other. "But that's easily fixed." She grinned. "Unless you mind walking around with a girl in a fancy dress and no shoes."
Annie figured that he'd either object, and they'd get into the car and go somewhere else, or he wouldn't give a shit, and she could toss the shoes in the car with her bag and forget about them for the moment. If she'd been a betting girl, she would have placed money on the latter.
