Annie nodded. Blue was good. Her eyes darted to the screen and she actually felt relief at what she saw. She had dreaded trying to figure this all out by herself.
"Oh! Thank you, Jarvis. You are a freaking lifesaver. Yes, please have a car waiting." She gathered up her things quickly and rushed out the door of the lab. It was still a while before seven, but Annie had no idea how long this kind of thing usually took.
She dashed to the elevator, almost vibrating from the excitement of getting to go out and be all dolled up mixed with the nervousness of trying to figure out what she should be wearing and the fact that she'd be doing all of this on the arm of Tony Stark.
Annie hardly noticed the ride to the boutique, trying to think of what she could possibly wear that wouldn't look out of place on her. She was such a comfy clothes kind of person. The dress she'd worn to the castle had been nice, but not anywhere near fancy, and it had just been in her closet. She wanted to look the part tonight. Was it possible to do? She guessed if anybody had the ability to take a girl like her and turn it around, boutique employees would.
The car stopped and she sat a moment, staring at the front of the place. When the driver turned to tell her they were there she held up a hand and nodded, working up the courage.
The boutique women were on her as soon as she walked in. She sputtered out what the evening was about and that she'd been told to find a blue dress, but it was in brief bursts. It was all she could manage through their fluttering. From there, it was all out of Annie's hands, and things were done to her that she'd never imagined she'd ever face. Some of it was scarier than a president named Doom. Some of it even hurt.
But she walked back out, a little bit past 6:30, in a blue dress with matching heels. Her hair was pulled back with strategically placed "stray" curls here and there. They'd actually left her alone, for the most part, when it came to makeup, and all she had on was light eyeliner, a tiny bit of blue shadow that matched the dress, and some gloss on her lips. In her hand was a bag tinier than anything she'd ever carried, yet it held her house keys and makeup for touch-ups, though even that seemed like it would be impossible to fit.
The things she'd come with were piled into the car she'd been brought in, then it was sent off to her home, while she waited for Tony. Annie saw the limo from down the street. She knew right away it was for her.
